Meriki Oysters
Oyster aquaculture – business opportunities
Meriki Island Oysters consists of 7 Oyster Aquaculture Torrens title allotments averaging 2000m2 each and all with direct water access and a purpose built shed and jetties on the banks of the lower reaches of the Macleay River NSW. The prospective purchasers and operators (“the growers”) will be required to become stakeholders in the single company (“The Co-op”) that controls the production, marketing, distribution and administration of the Oyster Aquaculture business.
The premise of this business structure is to provide an organisation that takes care of the business operations for the individual growers. The single entity also provides an economy of scale to fund the research, development and logistics of sustainable oyster growing practices in a designated Priority Oyster Aquaculture Area.
The structure and premise of the operation is in line with the DPI Oyster Industry Sustainable Aquaculture Strategy.
